CIGNA Falmouth Road Race Mile

Saturday, August 8, 2009

Erin Donohue (Haddonfield, N.J.) broke the tape at the 2009 CIGNA Falmouth Mile with the fastest time in the world this year 4:27.91. Donohue, a 2008 Olympian, led from start to finish. The field consisted of only three other women this year due to recent scratches. Nicole Edwards (Canada) took the second-place spot in 4:29.33, second fastest in the world, while Morgan Uceny (Ithaca, N.Y.) ran a four-second personal best of 4:31.70. Sara Hall (Mammoth Lakes, Cal.) finished the field in 4:32.24, also a personal best for her on U.S. soil.

Uceny, Hall and Edwards closely followed Donohue after she opened in 65.17 seconds for 400 meters. At the 800-meter mark (2:11.6), Edwards moved up to the third-place position behind Donohue and Uceny, and made her final move with 300 meters to go. Edwards’ kick secured second place as Donohue crossed the line with a ten-yard lead.

All four women broke the 4:33 barrier and will receive prize-money bonuses for their strong performances in Falmouth.
