Falmouth Mile ResultsPublished on Saturday, August 08, 2009 CIGNA Falmouth Road Race Mile Saturday, August 8, 2009 The men’s 2009 CIGNA Falmouth Mile saw strong representation from the Oregon Track Club, as Will Leer (Eugene, Ore.) won in 3:57.28 with Stephen Pifer (Edwardsville, Ill.) just behind in 3:58.58. Tommy Schmitz (Mineral Point, Wis.) missed breaking four minutes with a time of 4:00.80 while Sean Brosnan (Eugene, Ore.) and Josephat Keino (Aurora, Col.) finished in 4:06.15 and 4:11.17 respectively. Oregon Track Club runners, Leer and Pifer quickly cut to the inside and hit 200 meters in 28.5 seconds. Darren Brown (Austin, Tex.), who dropped out after 1000 meters, was in the third position after a 59.1-second opening lap with Brosnan, Keino and Schmitz right behind. Pifer took the lead after 800 meters in a 1:59.4 split with Leer still on his shoulder. Schmitz followed with Brosnan and Keino falling off the sub 4-minute pace as one lap remained. Leer overtook Pifer with 160 meters to go and accelerated off the turn to the finish. His winning time at this year’s Falmouth Mile is the tenth fastest by an American this year, and tops his fourth-place finish last year by more than 3 seconds. Both Leer and Pifer will be in contention tomorrow for the 37th running of the CIGNA Falmouth Road Race tomorrow. 1. Will Leer Eugene, OR 3:57.28 # 5 AT at Falmouth 2.
